Some ingredient names feel familiar before you even turn the jar around. Sweet almond oil is one of them. But knowing almonds from your kitchen is different from knowing what their oil contributes to a body cream.
In our Holistic Body Butter, sweet almond oil joins a blend of plant oils and butters. Let’s look at its role, the name to look for on the label, and why enjoying it in a complete formula can be simpler than adding another bottle to your shelf.

What is sweet almond oil called on a skincare label?
Look for Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil. It is the oil obtained from almond seeds, also called kernels. You may also encounter the botanical name Prunus dulcis.
Health Canada’s ingredient database connects these names and identifies the seed as the source. The long botanical wording gives you a precise way to recognise the ingredient rather than relying only on a product’s front label.
What does sweet almond oil do in body care?
Its useful cosmetic role is as an emollient, an ingredient that helps soften and smooth the feel of skin. Cosmetic ingredient manufacturer Clariant lists sweet almond oil as an emollient for formulations including creams and lotions.
That is a different job from simply adding water to a formula. In our Holistic Body Butter, sweet almond oil sits alongside water, aloe leaf juice, glycerine and several plant butters. You experience those ingredients together as a cream, rather than applying each one separately.
If you enjoy understanding how the ingredients work together, our cocoa butter spotlight introduces another ingredient in the same jar, this time a firm plant butter.
Is sweet almond oil the same as bitter almond oil?
No. Sweet and bitter almonds are distinct ingredient sources, and the names should not be treated as interchangeable when choosing body care. Our Holistic Body Butter specifically lists sweet almond oil.
“Sweet” is part of the ingredient’s identity. It is not a description of how sweet your finished cream will smell. For that, look at the product’s scent options. Holistic Body Butter is currently offered in Lemongrass Kissed.
What recent research tells us about the oil
A 2025 study in Food Chemistry compared sweet and bitter almond oils obtained using three extraction methods, with and without the kernel skin. Researchers found differences in oil composition, including the proportions of fatty acids, depending on the processing conditions.
This was laboratory research on the oils themselves, not a trial of a body cream on people. It helps explain why the details of an ingredient matter, but does not establish skin results for LC products.
Will every cream containing almond oil feel oily?
An ingredient list alone cannot answer that. A cream containing sweet almond oil is a different experience from a bottle of the oil on its own. The other ingredients and their proportions help shape the finished texture.
Our Holistic Body Butter is described as smooth, creamy and velvety. When choosing body care, consider that texture description alongside the full ingredient list. Our guide to why similar ingredient lists can feel different explains why recognising the same oil in two products does not mean they will feel identical.
Where can you find sweet almond oil in LC products?
You will find it in our Holistic Body Butter, together with shea, cocoa, mango and cupuaçu butters, plus other plant oils. It is one part of the blend behind the product’s creamy feel.

The product carries a nuts and seeds warning, so keep that in mind when checking ingredients for your own needs. You do not need to add extra almond oil to the jar to include it in your routine; it is already part of the formula.
